Box - Carl Zeiss Vintage Aircraft Camera Filter German Air Force

An original vintage Carl Zeiss Jena reconnaissance aircraft camera filter.

Mounted in a Burr Maple box - useful and unique storage.

This 120 mm wide Zeiss camera filter is marked with Carl Zeiss Jena Gelbfilter Fliegertruppe. - Yellow Filter Air Force.

Fliegertruppe was the name given to the German air force in WW1 up until the Luftwaffe .

These large reconnaissance cameras were used from WW1 and even up until the 1960's.

This one was found in the Welsh Valleys in the 1940's

The filter had lain on the ground and water has partially dissolved some of the yellow filter.

The filter spring catch has the original grey paint and there are traces of black on the securing ring.

The filter rim is aluminium and is ca. 2.5 cm deep.

We have made a custom burr maple box that measures just under 6 inches in diameter and 3 3/4 inches tall.

The inside of the box is ca. 2 inches deep so is useful for storing items.

The box has been oiled and waxed.

The filter originally had a bayonet fitting onto the camera lens and was held in place using the sprung clip. We have added an extra ridge around the rim to allow the clip to hold the filter in place.

A unique and historic storage box.
